National Hot Dog Day: Here's where to get the most unique franks on the SouthCoast

Nothing is more American than a hot dog cooked to perfection and loaded with your favorite toppings. While there is much debate about what is best served on your frank, you can’t argue that it’s a fan favorite as about 20 million are consumed annually.

Hot dogs have transformed over the years from being topped with basic condiments to becoming a whole meal in a bun.

With National Hot Dog Day happening on July 17, we looked around for unique dogs to celebrate. Whether they are boiled, grilled, steamed, or fried it’s time to dig into these local eateries to bring you the elevated dog you didn’t know you needed.

Chili Dog Cheese Fries

Thinking outside the bun with this creation Sixes & Sevens is giving you everything you love with its Chili Dog Cheese Fries. Dig into seasoned shoestring fries topped with beef and bean chili, cheddar whiz, diced white onion, fried jalapenos, and hot dog coins for $14. Hot Cheetos Corn Dog

It’s an international treat at Chicken Story when you order one of their Korean Corn Dogs. Combine this delicacy with American taste buds and you get the Hot Cheetos Corndog, which is a hotdog dusted in a Flamin' Hot Cheetos crust topped with a sauce of your choice for $6.29. Mac and Cheese Dog

When your two favorite meals combine you get the Mac and Cheese Dog at Dukies Doggz. Get a steamed all-beef hot dog topped with gooey mac and cheese for $5. There are lots of toppings to be eaten at 636 Slocum Road, Dartmouth.

BLT Dog

Kiyla's Korner has elevated a classic sandwich to hot dog form with its BLT hot dog. It’s a steamed or grilled hot dog topped with bacon, lettuce, and tomato for $4. They also offer different types of dogs like lingui?a and veggies at 85 Osborne St., New Bedford.
