The Summers County Council on Aging is a big proponent of keep seniors as healthy as they can be.
From various exercise programs to blood glucose testing, the Council tries to help its seniors as often as they can.
Cindy Garrett, Executive Director for the Council, said focusing on health and fitness is incredibly important for seniors.
“Oh, it’s very important for the seniors. They need to get the exercise and the stretches and the different things so that they stay active, so that they stay limber, so they stay balanced,” said Garrett. “If they don’t exercise and do some of these programs then they lose their balance, and when you lose your balance then of course you can’t walk, you can’t get around, you can’t do things.”
Some of the programs the Council offers for their seniors are drumball and bingo-cise.
Garrett said they’ll soon be offering tai chi as an exercise to their seniors thanks to their new Activities Coordinator, Vickie Wheeler.
They also offer nutritious lunches every day and encourage seniors to learn more about the nutrition that will benefit them the most.
