Nature Notes: ‘St. Pawtrick’s Day,’ snook, robotics team advances

The recreational harvest of snook in the Panhandle, Big Bend, Tampa Bay, Sarasota Bay, Charlotte Harbor and Southwest management regions opened March 1, and will remain open through April 30. This includes all Florida state and inland waters as well as adjacent federal waters within each management region.

Bag limit: One fish per person per day.

Slot limit: 28–32 inches total length.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services is celebrating 'St. Pawtrick’s Day'

Lee County Domestic Animal Services invites you to celebrate “St. Pawtrick’s Day” throughout the entire month of March with reduced adoption fees. All dog adoptions are just $20 and cats/kittens $30 with an approved application.

The adoption package includes spay or neuter, microchip, up-to-date vaccinations, county license and a 10-day health guarantee. That is a $600 package. A team of staff and volunteers are waiting to introduce a new four-legged family members. Stop by the adoption center Monday through Saturday between 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The shelter, located at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, is open for adoptions Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers are available to help adopters select the pet that is best suited for their lifestyle and family.

Edison and Ford Winter Estates robotics teams advance to state competition

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates’ First LEGO League teams, “Assembly Required” and “Batteries Included” recently competed in the Regional Championship and both teams are advancing to the State Championship, which will be held in West Palm Beach the weekend of March 8.

Additionally, Assembly Required won the Championship Award for the third year running, and Batteries Included won the Project Finalist Award.
