On March 31, the network announced that the entire NCIS franchise has been renewed for new seasons, including the flagship show which will probably be returning in the fall with season 20. (NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawai’i will also come back with season 14 and season 2, respectively.) Shortly after the news broke that NCIS will keep airing new episodes this upcoming September, actor Sean Murray shared the exciting announcement with fans on Instagram.
“Here we go again, baby... =) #ncis #season20,” he captioned a photo collage forming the number 20. “NCIS has been renewed for season …. 20,” the message read in the picture.
A closer look at the image reveals the Washington Monument in the background, an ode to the show’s location. Plus, more than two dozen snaps of the NCIS cast made up the double-digit number displayed, including Sean, Wilmer Valderrama, Rocky Carroll, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, Gary Cole and David McCallum.
After seeing Sean celebrate the show’s incredible milestone, NCIS fans immediately joined the festivities in the comments section. “Congratulations ?? ?? ?? ??Awesome ???? great job ??,” one person wrote. “I’m so excited!! Congrats to you and the rest of the cast! ?? ????,” another added. “Best news I've had today ?? ??,” a different fan said.
While most folks were ecstatic to hear that the procedural series was returning for the 19th year in a row, some couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed over actor Mark Harmon’s continued absence. Fans pointed out that he wasn’t included in the cast/character pic roundup. “MARKS PHOTO NOT IN 20 ?????? ????????????????,” a follower commented. “No Mark Harmon?” someone else added.
That said, others cheered on Sean and his fellow NCIS costars for their ability to adapt to the significant changes the show has undergone in the past few seasons. As viewers know, Mark left the CBS drama at the beginning of season 19 in October 2021. “Congratulations on pressing on. Pay no attention to the haters in the room. The NCIS mothership is still strong. Great additions with @katrinalaw and #garycole,” a fan wrote. “This makes me so happy! I love the character development and that it shows that yea, people retire, or move on to a different career,” another noted.
According to Deadline, there is no word about Mark planning a homecoming in NCIS season 20. Though he wasn’t featured in the collage, he is still part of the show as an executive producer. So, it isn’t completely off base to think that he might just pop up in the most unexpected moment.
