Nearly 100 animals up for adoption at Hatton Road animal shelter

The City of Wichita Falls Animal Services Center kicked off its seventh annual Clear the Shelter event on Saturday.

"Clear the Shelters is a national wide event that most rescues and shelters celebrate," Katherine Moore, senior administrative clerk, said. "It's basically exactly what the title is — it's to help clear the shelters out. We want a lot of adoptions, a lot of fostering to clear the shelters out."

The Clear the Shelters event is usually scheduled for after spring, which is typically when they have an abundance of cats, dogs, puppies and kittens; therefore the shelter hosted the event in August to help make way for the spring influx.

This year's event had a total of 92 adoptive animals in the shelter: 38 cats and 54 dogs. Also participating in the event were Emily's Legacy Rescue and Texas Pit Crew.

Potential adopters must fill out an application first. The standard $40 adoption fee is currently waived up until Saturday, but adopters still have to follow guidelines, such as prepay for spay and neuter, get a rabies vaccine from any vet office of your choice, and follow through with fence checks for dogs.
