If you received a BlendJet under the Christmas tree, this latest recall may apply to you.
BlendJet is voluntarily recalling nearly 5 million portable blenders over concerns that they may pose a risk of lacerations and fire hazards.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice following dozens of injury reports, as the model in question, BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders, are at risk of overheating or catching fire.
A total of 17 reports resulted in about $150,000 worth of property damage claims, while 329 reports warned that the blade may break off during use. Of those, 49 reports included minor burn injuries while one reported a laceration injury as a result of use.
BlendJet released a statement on Thursday to note that the recall impacts older Blender 2 models of a variety of colors and designs. Units where the first 4 digits of the serial number are between "5201-5542" are part of the recall. The newer versions available in stores and with serial numbers that begin with “5543” or higher are not under recall as they are said to have newer components.
The CPSC clarified that the recalled portable blenders were sold between Oct. 2020 and Nov. 2023 online and in stores, at retailers such as Costco, Walmart, and Target, across the U.S for anywhere between $50 to $75. Additionally, over 115,000 were also sold in Canada.
“In the small number of cases referenced in BlendJet's joint recall announcement with the CPSC, the performance of certain BlendJet 2 units did not meet the company's or our customers' expectations. While none of the reported incidents resulted in serious injury or significant property damage, out of an abundance of caution, our company updated the base of the BlendJet 2 to feature thicker blades and an improved electrical configuration. These updates were incorporated many months ago into all BlendJet 2 devices manufactured by the company," the statement read.
It continued: "We continue to hold ourselves to rigorous quality and safety standards as we help our dedicated customers live longer, healthier lives."
The CPSC advises anyone in possession of the blenders to stop using them immediately and contact the company for a free base unit replacement. The BlendJet website provides consumers with a full guide on how to request the replacement.

It’s been a not-so-jolly season for kitchen appliances, as earlier this month, more than 300,000 air fryers made by Empower Brands were recalled due to a burn hazard. Two models of the PowerXL dual-basket air fryer made by Empower Brands are in question, both of which were sold at popular retailers like Walmart, Target and Kohl’s. The specific model numbers being identified as a hazard are the DUAF-10 and the DUAF-005 Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryers.
