Nearly Every Working Royal Will Be at the Festival of Remembrance with Queen Elizabeth Tonight
The British royal family has long had strong ties to the country's military. Notably, Prince Philip served in the Royal Navy during WWII, and his grandson, Prince Harry, carried out two tours of duty in Afghanistan during his time in the British Army. Additional members of the family have also served in other ways—for example, Prince William was a helicopter pilot for years in the Royal Air Force—so it only makes sense that the royals take Remembrance Day seriously.
Much like Memorial Day in the United States, Remembrance Day is an annual holiday in the U.K. that pays tribute to those in the military who have died in combat.
Throughout this week, royals have been attending commemorative events, and tonight, nearly every working royal will attend the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, a crowd that is rarely seen in public together aside from the annual gathering on the Buckingham Palace balcony for Trooping the Colour.
The Queen is expected to be at tonight's event alongside her four children, Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward, as well as her daughters-in-law Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall (who has been ill, but is hoping to attend), and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, and Princess Anne's husband Sir Tim Laurence. The Queen's cousins, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and the Duke of Kent will also be in attendance, as will Prince Charles's sons and their wives, Meghan and Kate.
Tonight's appearance marks the first time the "fab four" will be photographed together since Prince Harry acknowledged tensions with his older brother Prince William, saying they are on "different paths."
At this point, it's unclear if Prince Philip will be there tonight as he retired from public duties several years ago. The Queen's cousin Princess Alexandra is also not expected to be in the audience this evening.
