Women Who Consider Themselves "Geeks," Tell Me About A Time You Experienced Sexism From A Fellow Nerd

You know, for a subculture that seems to thrive on being the underdog and the outcast, I can't help but notice that a lot of people who consider themselves "geeky" sure do love to make sure others don't feel included.

I'm asking the BuzzFeed Community, "Geek Girls, was there a time when you experienced sexism in the nerd community?"

Maybe you're a die-hard Marvel fan with a comic book collection to rival Stan Lee's, but every time you go to the store to pick up a new one, the clerk always asks if you're here to shop for your boyfriend?

Or maybe you've spent every Star Wars midnight showing stuck behind someone in a Kylo Ren t-shirt who keeps going on about how the franchise has gone downhill ever since they made a woman the protagonist of the series?

Or maybe you spent ages on your cosplay for a highly anticipated con, only to be suffocated by a bunch of dudes who think that just because you're dressed as their favorite character, it gives them permission to touch you without your consent?

Or maybe you're a music geek like me, who wore a shirt with a photo of The Beatles on it to a party, only to have a random man with an acoustic guitar play their entire discography in an attempt to quiz me on which songs I knew to see if I was a "real fan"?

Have you ever had a man aggressively play "Blackbird" at you? It's enough to make Paul McCartney pee his pants.

Tell me about it in the comments, or fill out this anonymous form here. You could be featured in an upcoming BuzzFeed Community post.
