1 min read

If you’re looking for a brand-new movie to add to your streaming queue, you’ve come to the right place.

Netflix just dropped the first official trailer for Have You Ever Seen Fireflies?, which is a Turkish movie that was adapted from a 1999 play of the same name. It’s similar to The Notebook in that it’s told through the perspective of an older woman, Gülseren, who’s looking back on her childhood.

The trailer opens on Gülseren discussing fireflies with her grandson. “They don’t show themselves,” she says. “Not everyone can see them.” The clip goes on to share a glimpse into Gülseren’s childhood in Istanbul, which consisted of immense pressure and social change…but, also, lots of laughter.

According to Netflix’s official description, “rebellious, irreverent wunderkind Gülseren navigates loneliness, love and loss against the current of political turmoil and social change.” (Think of it as a cross between Unorthodox and The Notebook.)

Have You Ever Seen Fireflies? was directed by Anda? Haznedaroglu (The Guest Aleppo to Istanbul). The movie stars Yilmaz Erdogan, Ecem Erkek, Engin Alkan, Devrim Yakut, Merve Dizdar, Ushan ?akir, Bora Akkas and Bülent ?olak.

Have You Ever Seen Fireflies? will hit Netflix on Friday, April 9, so let the countdown begin.
