Netflix Reveals Release Date for Live-Action 'Resident Evil' Series

Netflix has unveiled the official release date for its live-action adaptation of the popular video game, Resident Evil. The new series is different from Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which is an anime adaptation of the survivor horror video game that debuted last summer on the streaming platform.

The live-action series is set to take place 14 years after a virus caused an apocalypse. The show stars Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker - the villainous police captain set out to destroy humanity, Ella Ballinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph and Paola Nu?ez. While not much detail has been revealed regarding the new live-action show, Deadline reports that Andrew Dabb will executive produce and write the show. The plot appears to follow Jade Wesker as she fights to survive in a world overrun by blood-thirsty creatures. However, her past catches up to her in New Racoon City as he father's connections to the Umbrella Corporation prove to be an obstacle.

Resident Evil arrives on netflix on July 14.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has joined Dakota Johnson in Marvel's Madame Web.
