New England Patriot Rocks an Ear Cuff on the Runway
Philipp Plein was virtually unknown in the U.S. … until he staged one of the most extravagant runway shows New York Fashion Week had ever seen.
While many designers have used their platforms to speak out against President Trump and his policies, Plein, who’s originally from Germany, found inspiration in POTUS. First daughter Tiffany Trump even sat front row, although she was greeted at the New York Public Library — which was lined with Statues of Liberty and had Elvis impersonators and Naked Cowboys welcoming guests — by protesters.
The theme, “Making NYFW Great Again,” was an elaborate production, with flashy clothing on the models and major celebrities in the front row — Madonna, Paris Hilton, Kylie Jenner, and Tyga, to name a few.
The runway show itself was just as stacked with big names. It opened with Nas, and then the Kills took the circular stage to rock out. Opening the show was viral sensation “Hot Mugshot Guy” Jeremy Meeks, followed by a slew of rappers, including Fetty Wap, Desiigner, and Young Thug. Danny Amendola, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots and recent Super Bowl 51 champion (and Olivia Culpo’s boyfriend), even traded in his uniform for a leather ensemble and ear cuff.
For his first show in New York, Plein surely made a splash. Watch as Yahoo Style’s Joe Zee goes behind the scenes of New York Fashion Week’s most over-the-top show.
