Christina Milian is a wonder. The multitalented 39-year-old actress-singer-songwriter-entrepreneur and mother of three truly does it all. (She even owns a couple of beignet cafes.)
It's hard to imagine that the gorgeous “Dip It Low” singer ever dips low on self-esteem, but past battles with thinning hair were trying. Being the force that she is, Milian has devised a plan to prevent lost locks.
Milian, who was secretly pregnant while filming the new Netflix rom-com Resort to Love, experienced postpartum hair loss months after birthing her first two children, now one and a half and 11. With her third child joining her brood just this past April, this busy mom has to be strategic about her self-care and beauty routine.
"I’m all about moisture," Milian told us. "Moisture in the hair. Moisture in the face. It keeps you young, it keeps you healthy."
Milian kindly took time out of her nonstop schedule to let us in on the five secret weapons in her beauty arsenal.
Nioxin System Kit 5
"When you have a baby, you lose some hair — let’s keep it honest," says Milian. In fact, postpartum hair loss happens to up to 50 percent of new moms, according to American Pregnancy Association.
To curb this common new-mom complaint, Milian entrusts Nioxin's three-step system with her tresses: “This thing right here really has saved my life when it comes to my hair."
After the cleansing shampoo, "I hit 'em with a scalp-conditioning treatment," she says. "This revitalizes your scalp. I like to hit these areas, especially where I notice there might be a lot of hair loss...my temple and this area [top of head]. It’s got this really cool feeling. It feels really good.”

Donna Collection Double-Sided Boar Brush, Hard
On-screen, Milian's hair is a star in its own right. It can play straight (Snowglobe), curly (Love Don't Cost a Thing), or move back and forth between the two (Bring It On: Fight to the Finish and Resort to Love). She also keeps fans guessing what hairstyle she'll rock onstage, whether she's singing urban pop, hip-hop soul or silky R&B.
Milian enjoys the freedom to have fun with her hair without being weighed down by supplies. Her magic wand: the $7 Donna Collection Double Sided Boar Brush.
“It’s great because it’s two-sided," she explains, "so I can not have a bunch of brushes on me. If I wanna have my hair curly or if I wanna have my hair straight, this does the job — and my hair doesn’t break when I use it.”
Boar-bristle brushes are also known for stimulating the scalp and distributing natural oils from scalp to end for shiny, healthy hair.

The Mane Choice: Sweet Papaya & Pineapple Infinite 4-in-1 Conditioner
Here comes Milian's moisturize refrain again: “I use the Mane Choice when my hair feels a little extra dry or for the summertime."
The natural fruit extracts in this formula nourish the hair and scalp. It can be used as either a leave-in or a rinse-out conditioner. Milian prefers to dampen her hair and add a bit for a midday boost.
"You might have gone out all day and you don’t want to take a whole other shower and redo your hair all over again," she says. "You just kinda want to re-zhuzh — that’s a word. And you’ve rejuvenated your whole look.”

Bed Head Curls Rock Amplifier Mega Shaping Cream
To unleash her glorious curls proper, Milian whips out a nourishing shaping cream: Bed Head Curls Rock Amplifier.
Why it's her fave: "It doesn’t have a bunch of alcohol. I’m not into alcohol hair products like hair spray and stuff. So this actually keeps it styled, keeps it full."
Plus it's got jojoba oil! For slamming curls, nab it on sale for just $10.

Tula Hello Radiance Illuminating Serum
We're 99 percent sure that Milian's tap water flows from the fountain of youth, but she thanks a hydrating serum for her youthful glow.
"Of course you’ve got your hair, but you’ve gotta take care of your face. I like to use Hello Radiance by Tula. I put this on in the morning, or in the evening, or even just in the middle of the day."
It's especially adept at brightening dark spots, hyperpigmentation and plain-ol' dull skin. A little goes a long way.
