New York Fashion Week unofficially endorses bitcoin
The blockchain revolution is seemingly inescapable, and New York Fashion Week is no exception.
At the Ovadia & Sons NYFW men’s show on Feb. 6, the design duo Ariel and Shimon Ovadia presented a 35-look collection replete with punk plaid and leopard print, telling Vogue that an array of musical influences shaped the collection: Elvis, the Clash, and My Chemical Romance, for an amalgamation resulting in “punk gone West.”
Based on one look, however, “West” refers as much to the kind of yeehaw cowboy references as it does the West Coast’s tech hub Silicon Valley, home of bitcoin billionaires and their crypto castles.
The teal dress shirt says, “Bitcoin accepted. No cash,” with the cryptocurrency’s logo.
While fashion is adept at capturing the cultural moment in sartorial form, there’s no word yet on whether you can buy the look itself using bitcoin.
