The next Fyre Fest? Music festival leaves 80,000 stranded near Miami

Ultra Music Festival is being called Fyre Festival 2 after thousands of attendees were left stranded on an island. The annual electronic music festival, which was held in Virginia Key, an island off the coast of Miami, reminded attendees of the now infamous Fyre Festival when approximately 50,000 ticket holders were unable to return to the mainland.

According to the Miami Herald, although the festival had hired 200 buses to take concertgoers back to the city, these only catered for around 11,000 guests, so long lines began to form around 1am on Saturday morning.

As a result, some attendees had to walk almost three miles in the early hours, across the Rickenbacker Causeway back to Miami.

The hashtag #FyreFestival2 began to trend on Twitter, as concertgoers expressed their outrage. One user wrote: “.@ultra 2019 or Fyre Fest 2.0? Only one way off this island at 2am w/ zero transportation. 80k+ people stranded. #Ultra2019″.

Organisers responded with a statement on Saturday afternoon: “Last night, many of you experienced challenging transportation conditions leaving the festival. This is unacceptable and inconsistent with the high standards you have come to expect from us. For this, we are sorry.”

The statement continued: “As you might expect, we have already been working cooperatively with our city and county partners to promptly address and resolve these issues. We look forward to offering you a significantly improved transportation experience today and throughout the weekend, and we appreciate the opportunity to earn back your confidence and trust.”
