Richard Blais, Zach Laidlaw

Night four of the Next Level Chef elimination competition was more challenging than ever before because members of Gordon Ramsy, Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais’s teams were forced to do their food grabs off a platform that didn’t stop moving to give them access to the proteins, vegetables and other necessities.

Gordon explained the idea behind it was since the challenge was international street food which is eaten on the go, the platform would also be on the go.

Then the 12 remaining chefs got cooking for a chance to boil, bake and fry their way into $250,000. Last week, Wendy Bess Chui from Gordon’s team was eliminated, so Team Ramsay cooked in the basement kitchen this week.

Nyesha’s Ryan “Von” Smith won the next-level fish dish inspired by tropical island cuisine challenge, so Team Arrington cooked in the top-level kitchen this week, which left Team Blais in the middle kitchen.

The challenge for the night was to get street cred by creating the best international street food and elevating it. As previously mentioned, the platform kept moving during this challenge, but luckily for the contestants, it moved up and down three times, giving the cooks six chances to grab ingredients to make their dishes.

Team Blais’ Zach Laidlaw won with a beef and black truffle empanada dish with sriracha aioli.

Richard told him, “I have a beef-black truffle on a couple of menus, and I think I’m going to have to revise our recipe for it.”

And Gordon said, “Our job as chefs is to take humble ingredients and elevate them. This is elevated.”

Zach was relieved to have finally won the best dish. He said, “I finally got it. We’re going to the top.”

The elimination challenge took the competitors to their local bar and grill for the very popular finger food item: chicken wings.

Nyesha selected Alexandra for the wing challenge, and Alexandra chose to play it safe with a classic spicy and sweet chicken wing dish.

Gordon selected Jordan for the second time in a row and since Jordan had used his Immunity Pin last week to keep him safe, he had no choice but to compete. Zach, unlike Alexandra, took a bigger risk by serving up garlic parmesan wings.

In the cookoff, Jordan Torrey was the winner, sending Alexandra Donnadio home.

“I was honestly not expecting to be here as long as I was, so to get this far was a great thing,” Alexandra said.

Next Level Chef airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
