How Nick Cannon Is Honoring His Late Son This Holiday Season

Comedian Nick Cannon, who many know for both his career in the entertainment industry and his ever-growing family, got together with Alyssa Scott, the mother of his daughter Halo and his late son Zen, to honor the latter in a special way this holiday season.

After 5-month-old Zen passed away from brain cancer in December 2021, Cannon and Scott created the non-profit organization Zen's Light Foundation in his honor.

This December, the two hosted the first-ever Zen's Light Winter Wonderland at the Children's Hospital Orange County, an event created "to bring joy, love, and support to children battling terminal cancer during the holiday season," as reported in a press release shared with Parade.

The event took place on Dec. 18 at the hospital where Zen was treated for his cancer, with kids and their families enjoying games, treats and professional family photos to remember the night.

Zen's Light Foundation plans to organize similar events to bring "light and hope" to others in the same situation across the country, by "raising awareness, providing support, and offering encouragement."

In February of this year, Scott paid tribute to her son with a sweet Instagram post, writing alongside a couple of photos and a video of Zen in a bear onesie, "My last words to you were 'I’m here, I love you'. That will ring true until the end of time.. I’m here and I love you baby."

Shortly after Zen's passing on Dec. 5, 2021, Cannon spoke with People about losing his son: "We had a short time with a true angel. My heart is shattered...He was the most loving baby. I look at being his father as a great privilege."

Along with Zen and Halo, Cannon has 10 other children with several different women, welcoming his first two—fraternal twins Monroe and Moroccan—with ex-wife Mariah Carey in 2011.
