Nick Jonas Got Down on One Knee the Very First Time He Met Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas will reportedly say “I do” on Saturday, December 1, in the first of two weddings. And while they’ve only been planning the nuptials for a few months — they got engaged in July — Jonas has been envisioning a future with his bride for much longer than that. In fact, as the singer told Vogue in an interview for the magazine’s January cover story, he got down on one knee the very first time they met in person.

Chopra previously revealed that Jonas made the first move by sliding into her DMs. But before he did that, he reached out to Chopra’s Quantico costar Graham Rogers, texting simply, “Priyanka. Is. Wow.”

“That’s not the way I talk,” Jonas quipped to Vogue.

In September 2016, he worked up the nerve to send Chopra a DM: “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet.” She wrote back, “My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me.”

From there, their texting relationship took off. So when Jonas spotted Chopra in person at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscars party, he was ready to make a big move. “I put my drink down,” Jonas told Vogue, “get on one knee — this is in front of a bunch of people — and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud.”

They saw each other only a few times in the year after that. But four months after they started dating this past March, Jonas got down on one knee again, this time to propose. Now they’re gearing up for their big day — and it will be big.

According to Vogue, the couple will say their vows in a pink sandstone-and-marble palace in Rajasthan, India, and they’re partaking in many cultural traditions over the three-day celebration — including one that involves Jonas riding into their wedding on a horse. “Are you comfortable on a horse?” Chopra asked her future husband during the Vogue interview.

“I am,” he replied. “I can’t wait.”
