The first episode of Netflix's tennis docuseries, Break Point, focuses on the singular Nick Kyrgios. The 27-year-old Australian player, widely known as the "bad boy of tennis," has defeated the Big Three (Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokvoic) during his career, and had a successful 2022 season, which included winning the Australian Open doubles tournament and making it to the finals of Wimbledon (in a match watched by Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince George).
The episode, while it focuses on Kyrgios's run at his home Grand Slam, also documents his burgeoning relationship with Costeen Hatzipourganis, who also goes by Costeen Hatzi on Instagram (@costeenhatzi).
Before dating Hatzipourganis, Kyrgios was linked to fellow Australian player, Ajla Tomljanovi? (who also features in Break Point), Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya, and Australian influencer Chiara Passari. In summer 2022, Passari accused Kyrgios of assault relating to an incident during their relationship. The case is expected to return to court this February; his lawyers requested a dismissal on mental health grounds.
Here's everything you need to know about Nick Krygios's relationship with his girlfriend, influencer Costeen Hatzi.
They started dating at the end of 2021.
"We've been together about two and a half months," Hatzi says during one of her interviews in episode one, which filmed around the Australian Open in January 2022. "We met online, and we've been hanging out every day since. He's not as crazy as everyone thinks he is. I never really watched a tennis game in my life—so this is all new for me!"
The two stepped out together for the first time in December 2021, attending a NBL game (Australia's NBA equivalent) in Sydney. On December 4, 2022, Kyrgios posted "a year since we met and everything became better." Reportedly, Kyrgios slid into Hatzi's DMs.
Kyrgios first appeared on Hatzi's Instagram on January 2, 2022—Instagram official with a mirror selfie and the caption reading, "Not a bad way to start 2022 ??"
A year later, to celebrate 2023, Kyrgios writes on Instagram, "the best thing about 2022 was pretty obvious" sharing a selfie of himself and Hatzi.
Hatzi became a constant presence in Kyrgios's player's box during the 2022 season.
Starting at the Australian Open, Hatzi becomes a fixture at Kyrgios's matches. Soon, she begins traveling on the tour with Kyrgios, and documenting her travels on her growing Instagram profile.
On Hatzi's birthday on May 15, Kyrgios writes on Instagram, "My beautiful Costeen, the most amazing person I’ve ever met. You’ve been the biggest blessing in my life and I’m so incredibly thankful that I get to call you my best friend. No matter what we do, I always get excited because I know that we are going to make every little moment enjoyable. There is nothing I love more than being able to make you laugh and seeing that amazing smile of yours. I’m so incredibly proud of how far we have come, and now to say we have a home together. I cannot wait for all our adventures, big or small, or around the world. I love you coz, im so excited to spend my days with you..happy birthday queen."
Kyrgios gets a "Costeen" tattoo in April 2022.
He got "Costeen" in script on his left thigh five months into their relationship. (You can see a picture here.)
An Instagram story Kyrgios posted in May sparked rumors of an engagement, with a picture of them hugging and a diamond ring emoji and a white heart emoji. However, neither have commented publicly on an engagement.
Kyrgios credited Hatzi with his tennis success in 2022.
"I'm trying to work hard every day, I'm just trying to make every practice session count. Getting to sleep — I would probably be out every night, before. Now, I’ve got a great girlfriend, she helps me," Kyrgios said on court following a U.S. Open win. "And my team! I’ve got my physio with me, as well. It’s all my team. I’m just really happy and hopefully I can keep it going. I’m just working really hard."
And, she's the reason he's planning to play the French Open in 2023. (He hasn't played Roland Garros since 2017). "Yes, I’m playing the French Open, my girlfriend wants to see Paris, so why not?" Kyrgios said at at the Diriyah Tennis Cup at the end of 2022. "Pick up some more money [in Paris] … Usually at that time of year, I like spending time at home."
They have plans for the future.
"She has managed to navigate through a lot of BS and continues to love me for me. But I have her back and only want to provide and share my time remaining with her," Kyrgios wrote during an Instagram Q&A in November.
In another story during that same Q&A, he wrote of his future, "I want a beautiful relationship with this one," over an image of himself and Hatzi. "A big family. A successful tennis career that is able to look after my family. And give my kids opportunity and freedom. Lastly, be able to inspire millions of kids to believe."
