Nick Saban Is Headed To ESPN's 'College Game Day'
The legendary head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide didn't stay retired for long. ESPN reports that Nick Saban has agreed to join College GameDay as an analyst, just one month after ending his storied coaching career.
Saban was head coach at the University of Alabama for 17 seasons, leading the football program to six national championship wins and nine Southeastern Conference championships. According to ESPN, he's tied with Vince Dooley of the Georgia Bulldogs for the second-most wins at a single school in SEC history. Saban, who also led the LSU Tigers to a title win in 2003, is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in college football history.
Saban also is no stranger to ESPN's "College GameDay," having appeared as a guest multiple times.
"ESPN and College GameDay have played such an important role in the growth of college football, and I'm honored to have the opportunity to join their team," Saban said in a statement from ESPN. "I'll do my best to offer additional insights and perspectives to contribute to College GameDay, the ultimate Saturday tradition for college football fans."
Saban also will participate in other ESPN events, including the NFL draft and SEC media days.
"Nick Saban is a singular, iconic presence in college football," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement. "He is also an extremely gifted communicator, who will immediately add even more credibility, authority and entertainment value to ESPN, including our esteemed College GameDay show."
We expect more than a few football fans will be tuning in this fall to hear what wisdom Saban has to share about the game.
