Nicki Minaj Announces She Married Kenneth Petty
Nicki Minaj dropped a bombshell on her Instagram last night: The rapper is now married to her boyfriend Kenneth Petty. "???????????????? Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10?21?19," she wrote over footage of Mr. and Mrs. mugs and bride and groom baseball caps. Petty and Minaj first started dating last year and made their relationship Instagram official in December 2018.
The wedding isn't a complete surprise. Minaj revealed that she was getting a marriage license with Petty on her Queen Radio show in August. “We still had to pick it up and I was traveling, by the time I came back, we had to renew it again,” she said. “From that time, you have 90 days to get married. That was about a week ago, so now I have about 80 days.”
She originally announced she had gotten a marriage license on Queen Radio back in June. “We did get our marriage license,” she said then. “I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there, I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.”
Even before their wedding, Minaj was regularly calling Petty her husband.
Petty is a bit of a controversial figure because he is a registered sex offender in New York and served time in prison for manslaughter, People reported. Minaj previously addressed fans' concerns about this on Instagram, writing (via People), “He was 15, she was 16…in a relationship. But go awf Internet. Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can’t even run y’all own life. Thank you boo.”
