Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy Are Giving Us Major ‘Midsommar’ Vibes in the Trailer for New Series ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’
We couldn't be more excited for this.
Hulu is releasing a new series based off of a novel from Liane Moriarty (and if you're wondering why you recognize that name, it's because she also wrote the book Big Little Lies).
The miniseries, titled Nine Perfect Strangers, sees A-list stars Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy join forces in a tale that (from the looks of it at least) is giving us major Midsommar vibes. While we got a little teaser back in April, the full trailer has finally been released. Check it out below.
"Apparently I'm in need of some fixing,” McCarthy says as she drives to the Tranquillum House, the place where nine patients unite for a total “Mind and Body Transformation Retreat.”
This retreat is run by Masha Dmitrichenko (Kidman), a woman who seemingly wants to help these people, but does not come off as totally trustworthy. “Supposedly, she completely changes people,” one of the visitors says.
Along with Kidman and McCarthy, Nine Perfect Strangers features a star-studded cast, including Luke Evans ( Clash of the Titans ), Melvin Gregg ( American Vandal ), Samara Weaving ( Hollywood ), Michael Shannon ( Knives Out ), Asher Keddie ( Offspring ), Grace Van Patten ( The Meyerowitz Stories ), Manny Jacinto ( The Good Place ), Tiffany Boone ( The Following ), Regina Hall ( Think Like a Man ) and Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire).
The show was directed by Jonathan Levine, who has led major films like Warm Bodies and 50/50 . It was created by John Henry Butterworth and David E. Kelley, who previously worked with Kidman on Big Little Lies.
Nine Perfect Strangers will premiere on Hulu on August 18. As Kidman says in the trailer, “This is going to be a wonderful journey.”
