'I apologize to myself': Niecy Nash, 49, shares bathing suit photo as lesson in self love
Niecy Nash is teaching her followers a lesson in self-love and positive affirmation after allowing a vulnerable moment in a bathing suit to turn into an empowering post.
The When They See Us actress took to her Instagram on Wednesday to share what people are calling a beautiful photo of the 49-year-old in a one-piece bathing suit. But Nash points out that her initial thoughts after putting the swimsuit on weren’t so kind.
“I bought myself a new swimsuit and tried it on, then proceeded to Drag Myself – pointing out every ‘flaw,’ every bump, lump, scar, ripple & stretch mark,” Nash wrote. “Then I remembered that my body will hear everything my mind thinks about it.”
Nash credited a couple of her friends for reminding her to be kind to her body and for being examples of how to do so. Then, after apologizing to herself for her negativity, the actress graciously listed the reasons why she appreciates her figure.
“These hips caught two husbands (and a few boos’), my thighs touch but I gained weight having good food with great people,” she wrote. “I see my c-section scar peeking out ( thank you @thekatvond for putting a tattoo over it) but it’s a reminder that I brought 3 beautiful children into the world.”
She went on to share a positive sentiment about how her stretch marks represent the many ways that she has grown as a person throughout her life.
“Loving your body can be a rollercoaster ride especially without a filter!” she concluded. “With all that said I purpose [sic] to be kinder to myself today then [sic] I was yesterday.”
People have since flooded the comments of Nash’s photo to thank her for the inspiration and to praise her for the honest post.
“I needed this post today!” one person wrote. “Easily one of my favorite posts from you!” said another.
One of the actress’ friends added, “You are GLORIOUSLY AND PERFECTLY MADE!!! My beautiful sis! The power in this #brownskingirl testimony is SO GODLY!! This is what loving ourselves and our beauty looks like. Thank you for this reminder, for your spirit, and for this LESSON.”
