Nike Unveils a Stylish New Air Max Sneaker Just for Women in a Trendy Metallic Silver
More from Footwear News
Months after Jordan Chiles debuted a mysterious new sneaker while throwing out the first pitch for the New York Mets, Nike is peeling back the curtain on its new Air Max model for women.
The Air Max Muse is a lifestyle model with a massive heel equipped its namesake cushioning unit and a trendy metallic silver colorway to usher in its first release. Computational design was used in development of the sneaker, which places an emphasis on comfort in style while drawing on familiar elements of retro runners. Molded synthetic leather covers the majority of the upper with raised, flame-like detailing streaking toward the heel. Rounded cut-outs then reveal a mesh base, while a glossy panel surrounds the Air Max unit to highlight the tech. Nike says the juxtaposition of textures will be a focal point of forthcoming colorways to follow in 2025.
“This silhouette was designed to surprise women sneaker fans, capturing their attention and imagination with a new application of Air — something they’ve never seen before,” Women’s footwear designer Can Eldem said in a press release. “Our goal was to design an entirely new Air Max model focused on both expression and comfort, making the silhouette uniquely hers — sleek, beautiful and bold — while offering the kind of innovation and cushion that she expects from the Air Max franchise.”
Marya Chan, materials design director for Nike Sportswear, added: “We wanted to explore how the finishes of the Air Max Muse could enhance the silhouette while also providing her a range of options to suit her evolving style and mood, beginning with our silver metal colorway. It was also important for the materials to surprise her, both in how they look and feel, creating a new, modern expression that can be styled in multiple ways to enhance her everyday look.”
Air Max tech has been a point of emphasis for Nike in November, well away from the Air Max Day window that typically highlights new applications of the tech. Just last week, the Swoosh unveiled its 3D-printed Air Max 1000.
The Nike Vomero 18 max-cushioned running sneaker that was introduced this week also features a female-centric design.
The Nike Air Max Muse will launch in “Silver Metal” December 11 through select third-party retailers. An additional launch will then follow January 10. Pricing has not yet been announced.
