Let me start by saying that I am jazzed for the launch of Nike Adventure Club, a new subscription shoe box for kids featuring over 100 different styles of Nike and Converse kicks. For children ages two through 10, with sizes from 4c to 7Y, it's something only a brand like Nike could do, thanks to its wide array of shoe choices, including styles for activity, streetwear, water shoes, and more.

Why am I so jazzed? I work full time and will soon have three kids under three. I’m all about ways to simplify my life without sacrificing quality. Finding ways to streamline mundane yet necessary tasks like shoe shopping is key so that I can spend more time simply enjoying my kids. That’s why I was an early member of the predecessor to Nike Adventure Club, EasyKicks. There was a lot to love then, and even more to love now.

The 10,000 members that were a part of EasyKicks will all be transitioned over to the Nike Adventure Club; if you weren't a part of the pilot program, you can join the Nike Adventure Club waitlist now.

The Adventure Club service is particularly great for families that are already buying Nike sneakers, as well as families that dread going shoe shopping. It takes time to get to the store, get your kid measured, pick out styles, and try them on. Not only does this service save you from a day of shopping madness, but when your child’s personalized shoe box arrives, you also get a measuring chart so you can determine if you need to size up on your next pair.

Here are a few more things I'm loving about the new service:

You can choose how often you want new shoes.

You can opt into different levels of subscription depending upon how many shoes you think you’d need in a year: four pairs a year cost $20/month; six pairs a year are $30/month, and one pair a month will run you $50/month. To be clear, this is not a price cut on traditional Nikes, but the value in this equation is that it is saving you time and hassle, with some additional benefits, too.

You get more than just cool kicks.

One of my favorite things, aside from the general convenience, is that each package is personalized for the child with his or her name. The box also includes fun stickers and a Nike Adventure Club Guide featuring recurring characters and ideas for activities that will get them off the couch. What’s more, the shoe box itself is designed to be a coloring surface.

Past issues have been resolved.

One challenge I experienced as an early user of EasyKicks was that it was not super easy to modify your account if you wanted to increase your shoe allotment at certain times of the year (like in summer when you might want new water shoes or fall when you may need some cleats). The plan is now more flexible so you can upgrade, downgrade, or pause the subscription as desired.

Returning shoes when they didn't properly fit was also a challenge with EasyKicks. Nike is addressing that issue by no longer requiring that shoes be returned before mailing replacements. I was excited to learn that Nike is also now including a cleverly designed "outbound" return box within each "inbound" shipment to further simplify the return process (and reducing the need for added packaging).

EasyKicks also didn't have a great selection when I first signed up (though they continued to expand their offerings over time). But Nike Adventure Club is launching with over 100 models — and the brand says they'll also be offering exclusive styles that you can only get by being an Adventure Club member.

The company is being mindful of sustainability.

The inbound/outbound box is one way the company is thinking about sustainability. Another cool thing: You can return your used shoes to Nike stores, where the shoes will either be donated or sent to the Nike Grind facility. There, the shoes are ground and re-incorporated into new products. Don't want to take a trip to the store? Nike will be sending a pre-paid shoe bag twice a year if you want to participate in this program, or you can use the return box with each shipment.

The bottom line: While Nike Adventure Club may not save you money, it may save you a bit of sanity and score a “win” with your child.
