Since 2008, NikkieTutorials has been a hugely popular beauty vlogger, now boasting close to four million YouTube followers. The hair and makeup artist creates beautiful videos every week that show off her adorable personality and major makeup skills. Her most popular video to date is The Power of Makeup, in which she speaks about ending makeup shaming in a really honest way. The feedback from the video helped inspire her newest makeup collaboration, a five-piece collection with Too Faced launching this August.

We caught up with Nikkie to learn all about her fave shadow shades, why you need purple mascara, and why makeup shaming is still such a hot topic.

Seventeen.com: Why do you think makeup shaming happens?

NikkieTutorials: I think makeup shaming is still a thing because people are intimidated by others who go outside the box and get creative. So many times I hear makeup-lovers go, "I'm dying to wear this neon pink eyeshadow today, but I can't. People will make fun of me." To me that's just unacceptable. If you love makeup, there shouldn't be anything or anyone holding you back.

17: What is your advice to girls who are told that they should look more "natural"?

NT: My obsession with makeup started when I was just fourteen years old. So I say, if your parents support it, do whatever you want. And to anyone telling you, you should look more natural for guys out there, the person you need to love most is YOU. You have to be happy with yourself until the end of time, and if you feel better with a cut crease and glitter liner? Baby, rock it!

17: How did the positive response to your Power of Makeup video inspire your Too Faced collection?

NT: I wanted to create a collaboration that's versatile so it fits anyone's needs. It has your neutrals, shimmers, pops of colors, and, of course, glitter. The possibilities are endless and it really gives you the opportunity to transform your face and show everyone out there what you've got. It's okay to pack it on, add some more glitter and blend in another color. With our Power of Makeup collaboration we want to encourage every makeup lover out there to wear that paint with pride.

17: Everyone is super excited about your palette. Can you choose a fave eyeshadow shade?

NT: My favorite eyeshadow is Wham Bam. When we were creating the colors Jerrod [Blandino, Too Faced's co-founder] was drinking coffee with a vibrant purple straw. The first thing I said was: "I need that, in an eyeshadow."

17: The Better Than Sex mascara is a cult favorite. Yours is purple, an exclusive. What does that color do for your eyes?

NT: It adds the coolest touch of color to any look. Wear it with Wham Bam to make it pop even more. Or spice up a natural look by applying some to the lower lashes. [Ed note: it'll also make the whites of your eyes look super bright.]

17: You're known for loving glitter, so of course the collection comes with a little pot of it.

NT: I'm most excited about my eyeshadow palette and the glitter that comes in the kit. I think people will go nuts over the glitter. It transforms any look. When in doubt, add glitter.

The Too Faced Power of Makeup by Nikkie Tutorials kit retails for $56 on TooFaced.com this August and includes: one palette (featuring nine eyeshadow shades, two blushes, a highlighter, and a bronzer); travel-sized Better Than Sex mascara; full-sized Sketch Marker Liquid Art Liner in Deep Black; travel-sized glittering Glamour Dust in Glitterally; and travel-sized Shadow Insurance 24-Hour Eye Primer.
