With gyms in many cities closed and winter weather bearing down in many parts of the country, you might be a little (or a lot) less active than you'd like these days. Bingeing Netflix and practicing your baking skills is fun, but too much of a good thing might leave you feeling like an out-of-shape couch potato. The solution, believe it or not, may lie in your Nintendo Switch gaming system.
Ring Fit Adventure is a one of Nintendo Switch's hottest games, and it requires a healthy dose of physical activity to play. It usually goes for $80, but you can snag it right now for $70, even if you’re not a Prime member (non-Prime members have to add it to their cart to see the reduced price).
Ring Fit Adventure coaches you through a bunch of exercises using the included ring that lets you battle monsters, leveling up along the way toward harder foes and tougher workouts. The ring accessory looks pretty simple, but it actually presents just enough of a challenge to keep you on your toes.
Our colleague Dana Wollman over at Engadget felt “surprised and humbled by the workout Nintendo had somehow managed to slip into a kid's game” — one which thoroughly kicked her butt. And new dad Devindra Hardawar found it to be “a very efficient workout” that he kept coming back to. It was rigorous physical activity that he could do from the comfort of home while also keeping his young daughter entertained.
Amazon reviewers are even more enthusiastic, with Ring Fit Adventure earning more than 14,000 five-star reviews and an 89 percent approval rating. One fan raved, “My arms and shoulders FEEL like they had a good workout. And the crazy bit is... I can't wait to do it again!!” And she enjoyed the adventure mode, calling it “cute and endearing.”
Another shopper actually found that “this game has got me exercising 4 days in a row ... I look forward to day 5 tomorrow. Including days I work. I don’t typically exercise this much.”
Ring Fit Adventure was perennially sold out last year so we’d advise picking up this one as soon as possible before it disappears from Amazon again — and get ready to sweat.
