North Shore Comes Alive as Koa Rothman Surfs First Winter Swell at Rockies (Watch)

Winter on the North Shore has officially kicked off, according to Koa Rothman who just surfed the first swell of the season at Rocky Point.

That means the arrival of the surf circus is just around the corner, and for a few months, the North Shore will be dominated by giant swells and solid crowds in the lineups.

If you're planning to visit Oahu's famed surf spots, review Rothman's tips for surfing and surviving the North Shore.

Rothman captioned his latest vlog above:

"And just like that, we are back with the first swell of winter here on North shore! Find out why this is the best time of year to be here in Hawaii!"

Rothman gives up the answer pretty soon into the video:

"Best thing about early season swells is that there's no one around. It's pumping. As big as Rockies can handle and super rippable and fun."

In his latest vlog, Rothman mixes it up with some surfing, a visit to the Pyzel factory, cruising the North Shore for an a?aí bowl, and even a brief lesson in sun damage safety with another local pro.

Viewers were psyched about the video and offered more insight into its content:

"Awesome info about winter sessions men, be there as soon as I can. Thanks!"

"Wow, you had the place to yourself practically at least not super crowded got to love it!!"

"Stoked on the coming winter vids, there always the best when you're relaxed at home chillin' with the boys Nate, John, Eli, Ivan, and Kiron, you get an insight into the north shore from the other side of the world, cheers mate, all the way from West Oz"

"It’s hilarious that Koa gave that board away just after Pyzel was on “ how surfers get paid” saying he cracks it if a team rider gives away his boards because they should be handing them back to him"
