North and South Korea's Opening Ceremony Entrance
A month following a historical meeting between North and South Korea, athletes from both countries marched into the Opening Ceremony together. South Korean bobsledder Won Yun-jong and North Korean ice hockey player Hwang Chung-gum held onto the Republic of Korea flag together while entering the stadium to enormous applause.
The President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach spoke of the moment in his opening remarks, saying the countries' decision to begin the Games together "[sends] a powerful message of peace to the world."
While the team walked, South Korean President Moon Jae-in could be seen shaking hands with North Korean president Kim Yong-nam and Kim Jong-un's sister Kim Yo-jong.
The flag seen above is neither North Korea or South Korea's flag, but a symbolic "unification flag." The last time the Olympics were held in South Korea (Seoul, 1988), North Korea boycotted the Games.
