CLEVELAND (WJW) – Looking for thrills in the upcoming Halloween season? You won’t have to travel too far. Four local haunted houses were named among the “top haunts” in the United States.
The Haunted Attraction Association is, according to its website, “the only official association in the haunt industry.” Every year, the HAA certifies what it considers the best 50 haunted houses.
Fall Guide: Pumpkin patches, corn mazes, apple picking, festivals
As FOX 8 previously reported, to qualify, attractions must be HAA members and meet criteria based on customer protection, promotion and education.

This year’s list includes these spooky stops in Akron, Canton, Columbia Station and Sandusky:
Akron
The Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory, located at 1300 Triplett Blvd., offers two thrilling attractions, as well as a midway with refreshments and merchandise.
“The Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory have haunted Northeast Ohio for nearly 50 years!” the HAA said on its website.
Starting Friday the 13th, this haunted house is open most weekend days through Nov. 2, as well as on Halloween. Find tickets and dates right here.
Canton
The Factory of Terror, located at 4125 Mahoning Road NE, is considered one of the largest indoor haunted houses in the world and has been recognized by Guinness World Records three times, according to its website. This year, the haunted house offers four attractions to frighten guests.
It is open most weekend days through Nov. 2, as well as Halloween. Find tickets and dates right here.
Columbia Station
Spooky Ranch, located 19066 E River Rd., claims to be the home of “Cleveland’s scariest haunted hayride,” but it also has five haunted attractions this season.
According to the HAA website, “the use of pyrotechnics and larger than life 30-foot tall animated creatures will astound you.”
Starting Sept. 27, Spooky Ranch is open Thursdays through Sundays until Nov. 3. Read more about tickets right here.
Sandusky
The Ghostly Manor Thrill Center, located at 3319 Milan Rd, invites guests ages 10 and up to check out its haunted house with new rooms and more thrills.
“Ghosts lurk in every corner as you wander through this old mansion with many spooky surprises,” the facility’s website said.
