Northern California woman Evelyn Erwin celebrates her 106th birthday

(FOX40.COM) — A woman born during World War I recently celebrated her 106th birthday in Northern California.

Evelyn Erwin, who lives in Roseville, turned 106 on Friday and celebrated alongside family and friends at Oakmont of Westpark on Pleasant Grove Boulevard.

Originally from Lake Oswego, Oregon, Erwin is a mother of three and the author of a book titled “Yesterseasons.”

According to those close to her, she survived a life-threatening stomach ulcer as a young girl. She would later meet and marry a cardiologist who taught her how to manage the ulcer.

“She educated herself on the power of nutrition and also picked up gardening, which changed her life forever,” family members said.

Family members said she was even voted “Prom Queen” in high school.

Erwin’s birthday celebrations come a few months after America’s oldest living person, Edie Ceccarelli, celebrated her 116th birthday in Northern California.

Ceccarelli was born in 1908, which was around the time when Theodore Roosevelt was president of the United States and before the invention of sliced bread.

Erwin was born in 1918 during Woodrow Wilson’s presidency, the same year World War I officially ended, the Spanish Flu pandemic killed around 50 million people worldwide, and when Congress established time zones and approved daylight saving time.
