Is ‘Not Dead Yet’ Coming Back for Season 2?
Gina Rodriguez in 'Not Dead Yet'
When Not Dead Yet premiered on ABC in 2023, the Gina Rodriguez-led series was an instant hit with audiences. Now, the comedy is coming back for its second season, which is set to return in early 2024. With an exciting addition to the cast in the form of veteran sitcom actor Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond), the show's sophomore entry is shaping up to be even better than the first. Here is everything you need to know about Not Dead Yet Season 2, including its release date and cast.
Is there a Not Dead Yet Season 2?
Not Dead Yet is living up to its name as it was renewed for a second season back in May 2023. The show, created by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, is based on the 2020 book Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up. It follows the broke and newly single Nell Serrano (Rodriguez) as she works to restart her life and career. Nell takes the only job she can land—writing obituaries—but in a twist, she finds she’s able to see the ghosts of the people she’s writing about.
Production on many shows, Not Dead Yet included, was delayed by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that ran throughout the spring and summer of 2023. Even so, the series will be coming to our screens a lot sooner than many fans expected.

How did Not Dead Yet Season 1 end?
In the two-part finale of Not Dead Yet Season 1, Nell’s ex-fiancé Phillip (Ed Weeks) comes to town hoping to make amends. However, everything doesn’t go the way she expects when he tries to hold her accountable for her part in what went wrong in their relationship. After receiving some ghostly advice from guest star Rhea Perlman, Nell is able to own up to her mistakes, leading to a rekindling of her spark with Phillip. The exes spend a few weeks finding their way back together, but in the process, Nell begins to change herself to better suit Phillip. Unfortunately, this leads to her losing her newfound ability to commune with the dead.
When Nell tries to tell Phillip about her experience speaking to ghosts, he dismisses it as a product of the stress she dealt with following their breakup. He insists everything will be fine as he outlines their future, which includes Nell quitting her job, moving and having to start over once again. While she’s initially accepting of his proposition, she eventually realizes she has to end the relationship for good and surround herself with people who love her for who she is.
