Camping is well and good in theory, but in practice, not so much. If you still want to soak in the scenery—and not have to worry about wild animals lurking outside of your tent—give glamping a try. For the uninitiated, the five-star experience (a portmanteau of the words "glamorous" and "camping") is a luxurious form of camping in which participants indulge in hours of effortless relaxation, complete with resort-caliber amenities like elaborately constructed teepees, plush mattresses, and gourmet meals.

While New York City may not be the first place that comes to mind for an escapist retreat, it just became the top destination for lavish tent-living thanks to the W New York. Today, the high-end hotel chain announces its brand new Extreme Wow Outdoor Glamping Suite: an outdoor oasis on the W's 17th-floor terrace in Midtown Manhattan, designed in partnership with online interior design company Laurel & Wolf, that features glowing lanterns, twinkling lights, rattan hanging chairs, and a fire pit that can be ignited with a switch, not to mention sweeping views of the city's skyline. All this for just $2,000.
