New in NuLu: Wine bar and next-door retail shop now open. Take a peek inside

When you think of this new NuLu shop, you should think of things that are cute, curated, and cozy, of coffee by the cup and, of course, natural wine by the bottle.

The goal of Goldie’s, a retail shop that soft-opened with a ribbon cutting in the first few days of September, is to offer a little bit of everything under the categories of food, coffee, wine, and delights, as seen by the words on the storefront. That could mean a scoop of ice cream, a sandwich to-go, or a carton of eggs to take home.

“Goldie's is the store I’ve always dreamed of,” Sarah Height, co-owner, told the Courier Journal. “I feel like it’s all finally come to life, which is really special.”

Height and Chelsea Moore together dreamed up Goldie’s, the Market Steet spot with light blue doors and aisles of bright items, including cookbooks, cans of tomatoes, children's toys, and birthday cards.

The duo describes Goldie’s, which comes with the tagline “for the love of food,” as the next-door sister store to Bar Nada Nada, the super-cool southern European-inspired wine bar with small bites they launched in July. Bar Nada Nada has a covered patio and a huge courtyard with shared seating for patrons of both the bar and Goldie’s.

Height and Moore have done something like this before, as they are also the owners of The Breeze Wine Bar and Spirits and the Canary Club, 1247 S. Shelby St.

Walking into Goldie’s, you’ll see a counter offering a full coffee program, rotating pastries, tea, slices of pie, gelato, and prosecco.

You’ll also see a boutique-like grocery store featuring items you won’t easily find elsewhere. Height and Moore made it that way.

“It’s a lot of makers and producers that we can stand behind and we want to share with the community,” Height said of the sources of Goldie’s stuff. “We want to be a unique place that feels special and curated.”

The place offers plenty to peruse, including miniature and big bottles of bourbon, bags of chips, bags of soft-baked cookies, muffin mixes, tote bags that say “for the love of food,” and buttons that say, “In butter we trust.”

“We hope people can see it as a community gathering space and a store to get things you love and you’d love to get for other people,” Height said.

Bar Nada Nada, 829 E. Market St., is open 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday-Wednesday, 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday-Friday, 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday.

Goldie’s will host a grand opening on Sept. 14.
