Obama in Talks to Produce Netflix Shows
Per the New York Times, President Obama is "in advanced negotiations with Netflix to produce a series of high-profile shows that will provide him a global platform after his departure from the White House." That said, the deal is not yet final.
Someone familiar with the ongoing discussions told the Times both Barack and Michelle hope to use this new platform to "highlight inspirational stories," and not to comment on current events or respond to anything Trump-related.
Though he didn't comment on the Netflix talks specifically, senior advisor to the 44th president Eric Schultz said “President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” and that “as they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”
Apple and Amazon also reportedly are interested in producing content with the Obamas, but Netflix will likely gain exclusivity with them should the deal go through.
