BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — While Bakersfield doesn’t have a free access gateway to the cosmos like the Griffith Observatory, the Golden Empire is home to the Kern County Astronomical Society.

The Kern Astronomical Society will be participating in the “International Observe the Moon Night” at The Park at Riverwalk on Saturday, Sept. 14. You have an opportunity to join the free telescope viewing party and see the Moon and Saturn from 7 to 10 p.m.

This is a family-friendly event, or a great date night idea, to learn about lunar science and exploration and to take part in celestial observations, according to organizers.

Astronomy photographers are also encouraged to attend the star gazing party.
