‘The Office' Reunion We've All Been Waiting for Finally Came During Steve Carell's ‘SNL' Opener
It may not be an Office reboot, but Steve Carell made at least some of our Dunder-Mifflin dreams come true.
For his third time hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live on November 17, Carell started with an opening monologue that quickly became a Q and A from audience members, including Office co-stars Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly), Ellie Kemper (Erin Hannon) and Ed Helms (Andy Bernard).
While in the audience, Kenan Thompson asked about the reboot possibility, but Carell shot it down.
“It was a great experience, I love all of those people, but I don’t think it’s the best idea,” Carell, who played Michael Scott, said of a reboot. “I think we should just leave it alone.”
Kemper stood up to say she “needed the money,” and Helms built on her plea. “I don’t think you realize how much money,” Helms said. “You wouldn’t have to do those sad movies anymore.”
Pam chimed in too, to the audience’s applause, asking Carell if he remembered the “last words Pam secretly whispered to Michael as she left for Denver” in the famous airport scene. “She said, ‘Steve, don’t be a dick, do the reboot,’” Fischer said. “Let’s just do the damn thing!”
Even Carell’s wife, Nancy Carell (who played Michael’s ex Carole on the show) and their two kids tried to persuade him to do a revival. “We don’t really need you to hang around anymore. We’re good,” she said.
The three cast members then joined Carell on stage—and where’s Dwight and Jim when you need ’em?! Sure, it’s no reboot news, but we’re still smiling ear to ear.
As Michael once said, “I feel like all my kids grew up, and then they married each other. It’s every parent’s dream.”
