Ogden car show to benefit Youth Impact program

OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — This Saturday, hundreds of cars will be lined up at the third annual Ogden Airport Car Show, an event dedicated to giving back.

The event will be at the Ogden Gateway Center on June 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and attendees will get a chance to check out a huge variety of vehicles, food trucks, vendors and listen to a live DJ.

“We have anywhere from trucks to low riders, ATVs, high-end sports cars, muscle cars, classics… motorcycles even,” said Ethan Gerena, founder of Ogden Midnight Runners, which hosts the show.

Proceeds will go toward Youth Impact, a nonprofit after-school program dedicated to creating a safe place for at-risk youth. The organization provides tutoring and activities for youth, ranging from STEM, arts & crafts, ballet folklorico and recreational sports. Students are transported to and from the center where Youth Impact operates, and given dinner at the end of the day.

Gerena remarked that Youth Impact is an organization that means a lot to him, as it shaped who he is today.

“I personally went there from fourth grade all the way up to my senior year. That’s why I’m so passionate about staying on those morals of giving back to the community and helping the community that you grew up in,” he said.

Gerena said that Youth Impact helped him enroll in sports and even throughout high school. On top of that, they inspired him to serve his community.

“They also require all participants to do a certain amount of community service, which is where that stems into my existing business now,” he said.

Gerena said in the past, they’ve raised $10,000 to $15,000 for Youth Impact, and are looking to increase that number this year.

Ogden Midnight Runners, Gerena said, was made to combine his passion of community service with his long-time love for cars.

Gerena explained that he started Ogden Midnight Runners as a small club with others who felt the same, the group working to put on community cleanups and small fundraisers such as food drives, and then it later spiraled into a full-blown business.

“It really just started as a small car club local here in Ogden and turned into something bigger. Now, we’re doing huge car shows and fundraisers and big events out in Salt Lake, where we collab with other groups to make these events as big and successful as possible,” he said.
