Oh, No! The 'MacGyver' Reboot Is Ending After Season 5
Well, we can't MacGyver our way out of this sad news.
The CBS action drama MacGyver has been canceled after five seasons on the air. Yep, that means the upcoming season finale will now be the series finale, Deadline reported.
The reboot of the popular '80s show follows Lucas Till as Angus "Mac" MacGyver, an undercover government agent with genius-level engineering skills and a knack for using everyday items to save the day. Tristin Mays, Justin Hires, Meredith Eaton, Levy Tran, and Henry Ian Cusick co-star in the reimagining of the original series, which starred Richard Dean Anderson.
“All of us at CBS are extremely grateful for the incredible work and dedication from Lucas and the rest of the cast, as well as Monica, the writers and the entire crew,” said Kelly Kahl, the president of CBS Entertainment. “The MacGyver team traveled far and wide to repeatedly save the world with little more than bubble gum and a paper clip and made this show distinctly their own. We’re gratified we get to give this dedicated and loyal fan base the opportunity to say goodbye to their favorite characters in the thoughtful manner this series deserves.”
Lucas also shared a heartfelt statement about the end of the show on his Instagram, thanking the cast, crew, and all of his fans, and jokingly referring to himself as "the Roger Moore of MacGyvers." ??
"Where to begin? The past five years have been what I will look on later as THE most formative years of my life. Lots of tough, lots of love. I made life long friends, actually no, family," he wrote. "I learned to push myself to new limits, breaking through and through and through. Was nervous to take up the mantle of an icon and you guys allowed me into your homes and accepted me. I’m like the Roger Moore of MacGyvers now thanks to your support."
The show's series finale will air on Friday, April 30 at 8 p.m. ET.
Fans looking to fill the MacGyver-shaped hole in their hearts after that may want to check out Peacock's upcoming MacGyver parody series, MacGruber. If it's anything like the Saturday Night Live skit it's based on, it should be hilarious!
