Ohio apartment, built inside a swimming pool, goes TikTok viral

A Cincinnati apartment is going viral on TikTok.

The Williams, a 94-year-old building in Walnut Hills that used to house the W.J. Williams YMCA, features 29 apartments, including one setup that's getting attention on the social media platform.

According to City Center Properties, which owns the building, two apartments are built inside a swimming pool.

Photos on the City Center Properties site show what appears to be a former swimming pool, with a walking rail around it, now turned into a carpeted living area and an attached kitchen. Above it is a loft area that could be used for a bedroom. There are also one-and-a-half baths in the apartment.

A TikTok posted by user @vidswlyds shows off the unique digs. It's been viewed over 1.3 million times and has more than 165,000 likes.

"I can't decide if that's the coolest thing ever or if it's really weird," she says in the video. "You have people over and they're like 'You live in a pool?' I don't know, why is that kind of cool?"

The Williams also features apartments that appear to have been built inside a former basketball court. Those units have also gained attention on TikTok. In 2016, the building joined the National Register of Historic Places and Cincinnati's list of local historic landmarks.

Charles Cellarius, the architect who helped supervise the village of Mariemont and designed buildings at Miami University and other Ohio colleges, designed the Eastern Hills Branch YMCA building, according to past Enquirer reporting.

The four-story Tudor Revival building reflected a design popular in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The upper floors initially featured a dormitory for 68 residents. The YMCA opened in 1930 and closed in 2011.
