What is Oleato? Starbucks' winter menu includes coffee with olive oil
The holidays are over and while the doldrums of winter approach, there is something to look forward to – Starbucks' winter menu, which will include Oleato.
The winter menu launches Tuesday, Jan. 2, with the oleato beverages launching Tuesday, Jan. 30.
What is Oleato?
Last year, Starbucks introduced in Italy a line of coffee beverages that infused Starbucks' arabica coffee with a spoonful of Partanna cold pressed, extra virgin olive oil. The drinks were available in select markets like Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, New York, Boston, Dallas, Miami and Austin, Texas.
"Oleato represents the next revolution in coffee that brings together an alchemy of nature’s finest ingredients – Starbucks arabica coffee beans and Partanna cold pressed extra virgin olive oil,” said Howard Schultz, then Starbucks interim chief executive officer last February.
On Jan. 30, Starbucks will launch the Oleato Oatmilk Latte and Oleato Golden Foam Iced Oatmilk.
What does Oleato taste like?
The reviews have been a mixed bag, to say the least. According to the website Let's Eat Cake the Oleato drinks Starbucks released last year weren't bad. The olive oil mixed well with the espresso and cold-brew coffee. The best option, in their opinion, was the latte.
According to Nick O'Malley at masslive.com, "It’s not bad. It’s just viscous, bland homogenized caffeine that’s been bent and twisted in many ways that it just passes from cup to mouth with as little personality as possible."
As with anything, it will depend on your personal preferences and whether you like extra-virgin olive oil. You can also just get a simple cup of Starbucks coffee which is pleasant enough and strong enough to get your day started.
What is on the Starbucks winter menu?
The rest of the winter menu includes:
Iced Hazelnut Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
Pistachio Latte
Pistachio Cream Cold Brew
Chicken Maple Butter Egg Sandwich
Potato Cheddar Chive Bakes
Valentine's Day Cake Pop
Vanilla Bean Custard Danish
