“In the middle of this latest Skims campaign shoot, I decided I was done being insecure about my mastectomy scars,” Munn wrote on her Instagram. “Every mark life has left behind on my body is proof of how hard I fought. I hope other women who have been self-conscious about their scars see these photos and feel all the love I’m sending.”
In the new campaign, Munn wears bras from the brand’s Ultimate Bra collection, including the Ultimate Nipple Bra in Clay, the Ultimate Teardrop Push-Up Bra in Sienna, the Multi-way Bra in Onyx and the Back Smoothing Brief Bodysuit in Onyx. In a video, Munn tells viewers, “When I look at the scars or how my breasts look different or how clothes fit on my differently, I just feel a lot of gratitude.”
The initiative benefits the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation to help spread awareness about the importance of prioritizing women’s health and advocating for early screenings. The brand will donate to 10% of the retail sales price for each bra sold in Skims stores and on Skims.com in the U.S. from Oct. 23 to 31, excluding bralettes. The campaign is directed and shot by Vanessa Beecroft.
The campaign shows women how they can start advocating for their own health by taking National Cancer Institute’s online Breast Cancer Risk Assessment test (BCRAT). Also known as the Gail Model, the test allows health professionals to estimate a woman’s risk of developing invasive breast cancer over the next five years and over their lifetimes. According to the National Cancer Institute, after Munn publicly shared her story last year, her outreach resulted in a 4000% increase in visits to the risk assessment tool.
The label, founded by Kim Kardashian and Jens and Emma Grede in 2019, has increased its product range from shapewear to underwear, loungewear, swimwear and sleepwear. Last fall, it introduced menswear. Most recently, Skims debuted NBA star Donovan Mitchell in an underwear campaign.
