Saturday marks 40 years since we first met Danny, Sandy, and the rest of the Rydell High gang, but let’s face it: we’re just as hopelessly devoted to Grease as we were all of those decades ago.

With its catchy soundtrack and adorable sock hop costumes, not to mention the sweet chemistry between Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, the movie musical has become one of those American classics that you can watch over and over and always get those familiar warm fuzzies.

Heck, even Newton-John and Travolta like to get nostalgic over a Grease re-run every once in a while.

When InStyle caught up with Newton-John, who played Aussie ingénue turned badass Sandy Olsson in the original film, the actress confessed that she still enjoys re-watching the film from time to time—especially when it’s with her co-star and longtime pal Travolta. "The last time I watched Grease was about 9 years ago,” says Newton-John. “Believe it or not, my husband John [Easterling] had never seen the film when he met me and even after we got married. So about 9 years ago, we went to have dinner at John Travolta’s house, and when he heard that my husband John had never seen the film, he arranged for us to have dessert on his airplane and watch the movie together. When we got on the plan and sat down, Grease just started playing and surprised us! My husband got to watch it with both John and I, so it was the ultimate way to see it! He loved it, of course. And I was just entranced by watching him watch it.”

It’s not unusual for Newton-John and Travolta to hang out whenever they get a chance. “From the cast, I keep in touch with John and Didi [Conn] the most,” said Newton-John, of the star who played beauty school dropout Frenchy. Earlier this year at the G’Day USA Black Tie Gala, Travolta and Newton-John teamed up again to sing “You’re the One that I Want” from the film, setting social media abuzz.

So with so much love still surrounding the film, many fans have wondered if the movie would ever be remade. "Listen, if they decide to do it, they'll decide to do it,” says Newton-John of a possible Grease re-boot. "I think sometimes it's better to leave things as they are because they did Grease 2 and it didn't quite work out. It probably will happen one day, maybe in a more modernized version, but there's something about the original that will always stick around, I think."

To celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary, Newton John teased that she and Travolta will “definitely do something” to mark the occasion. The actress also plans to auction off her famed Sandy costume, which she still has in her closet, from the film to benefit the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre. But still, when she thinks back on the last four decades, it’s hard for her to believe how quickly the time has passed. “It’s wild to think that it has been that long,” she said. “Grease has been such a gift for me. I feel so blessed to be a part of something that is still loved."
