In One Ear: CopenPay
Visit Copenhagen has come up with a clever idea: CopenPay. The concept involves Copenhagen, Denmark, tourists and residents earning rewards from local attractions for “climate-friendly” actions that have an environmental impact.
It is not intended to increase tourism, but you never know.
To claim a reward, one must show proof of having completed a “green action,” then find one of the 24 participating attractions shown on the CopenPay map.
For example: Collecting trash earns a free organic meal at BaneGaarden, or arriving at Zoku Copenhagen by bike or public transport is worth a free organic beer, or helping keep the harbor clean is good for a free kayak rental at GreenKayak.
For now, CopenPay, which started July 15, only runs until Aug. 11. But, “based on the evaluation, we hope to reintroduce CopenPay as a year-round, green payment experience within the economy, and broaden the concept to other parts of Denmark and the rest of the world.” It’s a good idea for any city, Astoria included.
