This One Flight Route Brings in More Than $1 Billion Per Year (Video)

British Airways is flying the most profitable airline route in the world.

Data gathered from the Official Airline Guide (OAG) revealed the top 10 revenue-earning flights across the globe, and how much they brought to their airlines in the course of a year.

At the very top of the list was British Airways’ non-stop route from New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport to London Heathrow Airport, bringing in a staggering $1.04 billion.

Behind British Airways is Qantas Airways, with its Melbourne to Sydney route bringing in $855 million, and then Emirates, with its London Heathrow to Dubai route bringing in $819 million.

The only U.S. airline to break the top five was American Airlines, with its non-stop Los Angeles LAX to New York JFK route bringing in $698 million.

According to Forbes, while other airlines such as Delta and Virgin also fly from New York City to London Heathrow, none were able to break the top 10. It also doesn’t hurt that British Airways flies this particular route 15 times daily.

The OAG’s findings suggest, as Forbes pointed out, that business travel seems to rule the sky. Despite budget airlines like Spirit adding more routes to the market, airlines seem to generate most of their revenue by placing high prices on premium services for busy travelers who need to take these routes regularly for work.
