If making eco-friendly decisions at the grocery store is important to you, then the new reusable egg cartons from Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs—one of the leading organic egg distributors in the nation—will appeal to you. The company just launched the egg cartons made from recycled, durable, and BPA-free plastic, and consumers can buy them for $2.99 each. According to Treehugger, the egg company's mission is to limit consumers' waste-producing shopping habits.

Jesse Laflamme, CEO of Pete and Gerry's, shared that the reusable product will help cut back on the waste that normal egg cartons add to the environment. "While we are confident in the sustainability of our current carton, which is made from 100 percent recycled plastic and has less environmental impact than the Styrofoam or molded pulp cartons used by conventional egg brands, we continue to challenge ourselves to find even better ways to improve our environmental stewardship," he said. "Reusable cartons are a logical next step in our ongoing commitment to sustainability, moving consumer behavior from recycling to reuse."

The cartons made their debut for consumers at the Hanover Co-op Food Stores of New Hampshire and Vermont this month. Laflamme went on to share that the revolutionary design is exactly what Pete and Gerry's shoppers needed. "Our consumers expect Pete and Gerry's to be on the leading edge of sustainability," Laflamme said. "Like many other consumer packaged goods companies, we recognize that reuse is even better than recycling, and we're proud to be at the forefront of this growing movement to help reduce the impact of packaging on the planet."

With positive responses to the new design already rolling in, the carton is now expected to hit shelves at more stores in 2020. "Initial retailer response to the program has been very strong and we are discussing an exclusive launch with a major US chain in early 2020," Laflamme noted.
