One for the record books

Jul. 15—WEATHERFORD — Peach weekend erupted in Parker County, kickstarted by a historic feat — breaking the record for the world's largest peach cobbler.

Community members of all ages pitched in to help stack cinder blocks and stir more than 6,700 lbs. of raw ingredients into a pan constructed by Weatherford ag mechanic students.

"This has been the funnest thing to watch, just wide generations of people coming together," Weatherford Chamber of Commerce President Tammy Gazzola said. "[Thursday] night, we had little ones helping fill the oven, then high school students building the pan.

"I had 80-year-old men calling asking to come down [Friday] and be a part of it."

Gazzola credited chamber member, councilman and local business owner Zack Smith, whom she referred to as the "logistics king," for helping bring the idea to life.

"He had it down to the ingredients, the cinder blocks we needed... he figured out how to build it," she said.

Bringing the community together was a big part of the mission, Smith said.
