ASHEVILLE - The newest addition to Asheville’s South Slope brewing district will offer a plant-filled taproom and plein-air beer sanctuary for guests to enjoy their craft brews and pizza.

On May 17, Terra Nova Beer Co.’s flagship brewhouse and taproom will open at 101 South Lexington Ave. with in-house dining partner, Mission Pizza.

Terra Nova will host a grand opening celebration in June.

Nearly 40 new beers have been developed for the brewery’s debut by Kyle McKenzie, co-owner and Head of Brewing at Terra Nova and with the assistance of Brewer Technician Sasha Bynum.

For the May 17 debut, Pine Barrens, an Italian-style pilsner, and Les Fleurs, a rosé rice lager, will be on tap.

“Our brewing philosophy focuses on balance, drinkability, consistency, and quality versus quantity,” McKenzie said in a news release. “We want to keep innovation and experimentation at the forefront, getting the most out of every ingredient and making sure every process has a purpose.”

West Asheville’s Golden Pineapple has curated a craft cocktail menu for the brewery.

James Beard-nominated Chef Peyton Smith and his team will open a new location of Mission Pizza, a Winston-Salem-based restaurant, at Terra Nova. The menu will offer Italian-inspired pizza and small plates incorporating local ingredients. Vegan and vegetarian options will be available.

“My brother Geoff and I are thrilled to join the culinary community in Asheville,” Smith said in a news release. “We are equally thrilled to do so with a partner in Terra Nova that aligns with our no-nonsense approach and focus on the product. We have admired Asheville for years and can’t wait to bring our perspective to town, hopefully enhancing what is already one of the great food cities on the East Coast.”

Terra Nova’s South Slope debut follows the opening of Terra Nova’s taproom in partnership with local restaurant Loott House at 204 Whitson Ave. in Swannanoa. Loott House’s menu features burgers, wings, bowls and more.

Currently, 19 of Terra Nova's craft beers are available for wholesale purchase and on rotation at the Swannanoa taproom.

“We want to create something that’s bigger than just us – sure, we could create our own food and cocktail options, but why not partner with the people who love creating these experiences?” Steven Brett, co-owner and general manager at Terra Nova said in a news release. “We’ve carried that into our food partnerships with Loott House (in Swannanoa) and Mission Pizza, as well as into our partnership with Golden Pineapple.”
