The Oscar for Best International Feature Film Goes to ‘Parasite’
Listen up, ladies and gents: It’s officially time to honor the international filmmakers.
Tonight, Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 92nd annual Academy Awards. During the ceremony, Parasite won the statuette for Best International Feature Film.
The South Korean movie was up against Corpus Christi (Poland), Honeyland (North Macedonia), Les Míserables (France) and Pain and Glory (Spain).
The Academy Award for Best International Feature Film has been around since the 29th annual ceremony in 1956, though it was originally called Best Foreign Language Film. (The name change was implemented for the first time tonight.) The category honors international films that are predominantly spoken in another language.
Previous winners include Roma (Mexico), A Fantastic Woman (Chile), The Salesman (Iran), Son of Saul (Hungary), Ida (Poland), The Great Beauty (Italy), Amour (Austria), A Separation (Iran), In a Better World (Denmark), The Secret in Their Eyes (Argentina), Departures (Japan), The Counterfeiters (Austria), The Lives of Others (Germany), Tsotsi (South Africa) and The Sea Inside (Spain).
Italy currently holds the record for the most wins in this category, with a total of 14. The country is followed by France with 12 wins.
