It’s time to check your kitchen for the first time in 2019—Oskri Organics Corp. just announced a recall of their tahini butter and sunflower butter. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, both products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the organism that causes Listeria infection.

Three different products are included in the recall, and they were distributed in 11 different states. Here’s what you should be on the lookout for:

  • Oskri Organic Sunflower Butter, which is marked with LOT #099, the UPC code 666016401295, and the expiration date October 2019. It was distributed in Ohio and sold in retail stores.

  • Oskri Tahini Butter, which is marked with LOT #193, the UPC code 666016401301, and the expiration date January 2020. It was sold in retail stores in California, Arizona, Georgia, Connecticut, Indiana, Texas, Florida, Idaho, South Carolina, and New Hampshire. It was also available for direct delivery through online orders.

  • Thrive Sunflower Butter, which marked with LOT #233, the UPC code 671635704825, and the expiration date February 2020. It was distributed in Indiana, but was only available through direct delivery through online orders.

All of the products come in 16 oz. plastic jars, and will have the LOT number printed near the expiration date on either the top or bottom of the jar. Luckily, no illnesses have been reported yet, but it can take up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria monocytogenes for an infection to develop. Oskri Organics is urging consumers who have any of the products included in the recall to throw them out right away.

The problem was discovered when a consumer randomly sent one of the products in for testing, and it tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Oskri Organics was notified about the possible contamination on December 18 and is currently working with the FDA to investigate what may have caused the contamination.
