Otero College offers resources for well-rounded education
(LA JUNTA, Colo.) — Otero College offers students a multitude of resources on their journey toward a degree in their chosen field, the most important of which is the faculty and staff.
Otero College President Kimberly Zandt visited with Craig and Abbie on Friday morning, June 28, to discuss the many avenues students can take at Otero College and the support they can expect along the way.
“We have lots of resources, I think our greatest resource for our students here at Otero are our faculty and staff. It’s our people,” said Zandt. “It’s all about the relationships. We really truly care about each and every one of our students.”
Zandt credits the close-knit feel of the college to the low student-to-faculty ratio, 16-1, giving students more access to instruction and a more personal feel to the learning environment. In addition to the student relationships with the faculty, Zandt also credited the community for attending sporting events and theatrical performances, and for supporting the college with input.
Some of that input was utilized in the college’s five-year facility master plan, which has led to a planned groundbreaking on a welding shop for the campus.
“This is exciting because we’ll get to expand, probably more than double, how many students we can teach welding,” said Zandt. “Within that, we’ll have innovative equipment, so that when they get out, they’ll be assured, to be able to get those high-wage, high-demand jobs.”
